What Is Network Management?
Switched point-to-point topologies are the fundamental model of standard telephony. A repeater is an digital system that receives a network signal, cleans it of unnecessary noise and regenerates it. Commercial repeaters have extended RS-232 segments from 15 meters to over a kilometer. In most twisted pair Ethernet configurations, repeaters are required for cable that runs longer than one hundred meters. With fiber optics, repeaters could be tens and even hundreds of kilometers aside. ITU-T G.hn technology uses existing residence wiring to create a high-speed (up to 1 Gigabit/s) local area network.
